The mission of the Springfield Literacy Project is to increase adult literacy skills in our community by implementing a volunteer-based program. This program serves as a vehicle for providing one-on-one and small group tutoring for adults, ages 17 and over, that have literacy skills at 8.9 grade level and below and English as a Second Language adult learners. Each adult learner is tested and the tutoring sessions are tailored to the learner’s goals and test outcomes.
What we do…
Trained literacy volunteers provide tutoring in reading, writing, math, English language proficiency, workplace skills, and pre-GED. We offer 15 hours of Tutor Training that will assist the volunteer to work with adult learn.
Our program offers years of experience in working with volunteers and adult learners in our community. The Springfield Literacy Project offers its services at no charge to the adult learner.
How we make it happen…
As a grant funded community-based program, effective services are also made possible by maintaining active partnerships with Lincoln Library, Lawrence Education Center, multiple service organizations, churches and schools.
Where are we…
Fishes & Loaves Outreach, 3519 Sheffield, Road Springfield, IL 62703 Phone: 217-529-3333. There are a minimum of 5 active tutoring sites each year.
